Thank you
very much editors judging the recent Associated Press California/Nevada Newswriting and Photo Contest. I am very honored to receive the award for Investigative Reporting. With so many journalists out of work and so many newspapers vanishing, it's encouraging that there's still
a venue set up to recognize the relevance of in-depth journalism. Two years ago, I was very fortunate to have been part
of a CBC team at The Fifth Estate that produced an investigative story on Ontario lotteries. The piece won an award presented
by the Canadian Association of Journalists, hosts of the Global Investigative Journalism Conference in Toronto. Nice to see TV also values
in-depth reporting, in light of so many mind-numbing programs. My plan now is to hang both awards on my wall, then
invite newspaper editors and TV producers over for dinner. "These awards? The ones here on my wall? The AP award for investigative reporting? yeah.
The CAJ award for investigative reporting? yep. .... i'm hoping they convince someone to hire me .... more wine?" - jim June 11, 2009

ABOUT MY WEBSITE: It's my hope here to
provide a cross-section of my work as a journalist. At present, I am very
proud to be a stringer for the CANWEST NEWS, covering all things Canadian in Los Angeles. My last assignment was to cover
the orderly chaos of Michael Jackson's Memorial. Although I chase
a lot of entertainment stories, I still see myself, primarily, as a crime reporter having covered crime in both Canada and
the United States. I have selected for display here those stories that have required more investigation than the day-to-day
stuff. Please keep in mind that this
site is a work in progress. I hope, of course, to have links to the actual stories and, eventually, clips of the TV
items. All the print stories are available online, most through Infomart or The Toronto Star archives which includes
a decade of covering police for The Hamilton Spectator. My rates as a freelance print
reporter, photo-journalist and freelance television field producer remain very reasonable. Enjoy.
